Happy Friday All!
How are you feeling? I had a client tell me this week that he feels like the world around him is on fire. I definitely get that. Covid-19 infections are coming back with a vengeance. Stimulus talks are at a standstill. And a very important election is coming up on Tuesday.
As I’ve said before, when there’s a lot of uncertainty and chaos, the best thing you can do for your sanity is focus on what you can control. When it comes to the election, that means voting.
I’m likely preaching to the choir as many of you, like me, have already voted. But in case one of you are still pondering whether it’s worth it, I want to point out that who is running the country matters a lot:
- President Trump, with the help of a majority-Republican Senate, just appointed a third Supreme Court justice that will likely mean the Court will have a conservative lean for years, even decades to come. That lean may put the marriage rights of many LGBTQ+ citizens in serious jeopardy.
- A recent study out of Columbia University has shown that the Trump administration could have avoided at least 130,000, and perhaps as many as 210,000, deaths with a more robust pandemic response.
- And speaking of the pandemic, Obamacare, which established “minimum essential” health insurance coverage is also at risk of being dismantled.
Those are just a few of the many examples of how who’s in charge affects you and the world around us. If we all do our part, we can create the change we want to see.
