A 5-Step Process For Nearly Anything

Happy Friday All!

I’m a huge fan of James Clear and his habit forming techniques. In fact, at the beginning of the year, I did a series on building healthy habits inspired by his work:

In his newsletter this week, Clear set out a 5-step process for nearly anything that resonated with me and that I wanted to share with you.

  1. Explore widely. Find out what is possible.
  2. Test cheaply. Run small, quick experiments. Same things.
  3. Edit ruthlessly. Focus on the best. Cut everything else.
  4. Repeat what works. Don’t quite on a good idea.
  5. Return to 1

I’ve talked about this type of iterative process in building a successful business, but he’s right that this pretty much applies to anything! I’ve found so much freedom in keeping my options open, running small experiments to learn what I need to know, cutting things that don’t work and repeating those that do. I’ve found this helpful in business, different forms of self-care (workouts, nutrition, meditation, etc.) and relationships.

Just a short reminder this week that life is always a work in progress. Give yourself permission to figure things out along the way, rather than needing things to be perfect before you begin.
