It’s never too late to start planning.

I started Brian Thompson Financial with a simple goal: to educate and empower a new generation to take control of their finances. Now’s the time. I’m here to help.

Financial Planning Designed for Your Life

Young adulthood is a complex time, especially in this era of marriage equality, the Affordable Care Act, convoluted tax laws and widespread student debt. You’ll have a tangle of conflicting obligations but also a lot of opportunity for richness, joy and choice in the future.

Now more than ever, Generation X and Y LGBTQ couples, families and professionals need someone they can trust on their side. That’s where I come in.

The Advice You Need, When You Need It

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and tax attorney, I have the experience and expertise to help you help navigate the complexity of your personal, professional and financial lives.  My role is to be your objective, supportive voice that helps bring to your attention new opportunities, avoid missteps, and offer advice based on what matters most to you.

Whether you’re preparing for marriage or home ownership, ready to start a family or change careers, chiseling down debt or just want a better handle on your budget, together, we’ll tackle your questions and build a stronger foundation for your future.

Hi. I’m Brian Thompson, JD, CFP®

After a decade representing individuals and businesses as a tax attorney, I wanted to make a bigger impact and help my peers navigate the critical financial decisions that come with adulthood through knowledgeable, client-focused advice.

My firm specializes in developing comprehensive financial plans for LGBTQ couples that help you thrive now and in the future by making good financial decisions today. Our opportunities for marriage and family planning have changed dramatically. I know how exciting and confusing this time can be, having recently gotten married myself. I focus on setting and achieving your goals, protecting and growing what you already have and guiding you to the lifestyle that brings you fulfillment and happiness.

I want to discover who you are, what you want out of life, the challenges and tensions you face, the changes on the horizon and how to connect your money and resources with what excites you in your life. We’ll use that information as the filter for every meeting and every decision.

I graduated cum laude from DePauw University and obtained my Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law. I earned my Certificate in Financial Planning from Boston University Center for Professional Planning and received my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation in 2012.

I’m a contributor to Forbes and NAPFA Advisor Magazine’s Efficient Planner Column. You can learn more about me and my story in my profile in the New York Times and on my podcast interview that was featured on The Huffington Post.  I look forward to getting to know and helping you.
