BTF Turns 10!

Happy Friday, all!

Ten years ago, I walked out of my law office for the last time.

Strangely, the next morning felt pretty normal. I had a business to build, clients (hopefully!) to serve, and about a million ideas running through my head.

It didn’t feel real until two weeks later.

It was payday Friday. I opened my bank account…and there was no direct deposit.

That was the moment entrepreneurship became real. No employer. No guaranteed paycheck. If I wanted to get paid, I had to build something people believed in.

And somehow, ten years later, here we are.

This month, Brian Thompson Financial celebrates its 10th anniversary. And while I will write about all the business lessons I’ve learned, what I feel most is gratitude.

I’m grateful for every client who trusted me with their finances, businesses, dreams, families, and worries. I’m grateful for podcast listeners, newsletter readers, guests, referral partners, fellow advisors, coaches, friends, and family.

Because one of the biggest lessons of the past decade is this: No one builds a meaningful business alone.

We tend to celebrate entrepreneurship as an individual achievement. But when I look back, I see a community. Every referral, encouraging email, introduction, podcast conversation, and person who believed in what I was building helped BTF become what it is today.

I’ve also learned that meaningful businesses aren’t built overnight. They’re built one client, one conversation, one mistake, one lesson—and even one ordinary Tuesday—at a time.

And businesses that last aren’t necessarily the biggest. They’re the ones that know why they exist.

My beliefs today are remarkably similar to the ones I started with: Mission-driven entrepreneurs deserve thoughtful financial guidance. Your business should support the life you want, not consume it. And good planning should create freedom and flexibility.

So, as I celebrate this milestone, I have a request for you:

Celebrate one of yours.

Your first client. Your first employee. Launching your website. Paying yourself consistently. Making it through a difficult year.

We entrepreneurs are great at chasing the next goal. We’re not always as good at appreciating how far we’ve already come.

Let’s change that.

Questions of the Week

1.   What milestone have you moved past without really celebrating?

2.   Who helped you reach where you are today—and have you thanked them?

3.   What do you want to still be true about your business ten years from now?

Tool of the Week

This week, the “tools” are ways to connect and celebrate with me.

And if you have a milestone worth celebrating, reply and tell me about it. I’d genuinely love to hear it.

Here’s to the next ten years.

Best,

Brian
